Wrap Around Porch
A wrap around porch is one of the most challenging and satisfying home projects you can take on ...
The traditional look of a wrap around porch is a standard in Victorian home designs. When you picture an old Victorian home you probably envision a large porch and lovely gingerbread details. This classic element of large homes has seen some changes over the years. Today’s wrap around porch comes in many styles. There are quite a few options available for people looking to make this classic an addition to their homes.
Home improvement projects come in all different forms. The addition of a wrap around porch has both outdoor and indoor qualities making the project one of the most important tasks you will face as a do it yourself home improvement guru. Some people prefer to leave a task like adding a wrap around porch to the professionals. Either way, you have made the first step to opening the welcoming arms of your home.
Part of the reason that this element is so appealing is due to the fact that most people bring an aspect of their personality on to their decks and porches. A little outdoor decoration can really make the area warm and comfortable. The style of your wrap around porch also communicates a lot about you and your home to your visitors.
There is something so very warm and inviting about a well constructed porch or patio. However, a wrap around porch seems to embrace visitors with its vast appeal. This holds true no matter what kind of structure you design. Whether it is the classic Victorian porch or a sleek, modern deck nothing says “Welcome” like a wrap around porch.
This is good news for my family because we are about to add this element to our home and we are torn between two styles. Having a cottage style home has its benefits. One of those benefits is the simple fact that the home is appropriate for a number of different styles. When my husband and I were searching for the right wrap around porch for our house we discovered that we pictured very different things.
I love the traditional look of the Victorian wrap around porch while my husband loves the sleek, clean design of a modern wrap deck. It may be a little difficult to come to a compromise. We are leaning towards the latter simply because my husband is going to do nearly all of the work. I’m sure I can add a little bit of my own personality to the space.
