Electric Underfloor Heating
Electric underfloor heating is rapidly
becoming the house warmer of choice in the home design and
house construction industry ...
Electric underfloor heating, also known as a radiant heating
system, has gained popularity in the past fifteen years in home
construction. The simple design of this effective house warming
element is truly brilliant. The concept is based on the simple
principle that heat rises and that principle comes into play
when dealing with this kind of device.
Basically, the warming elements are placed in the floors of
the home. There is no forced air used in the process of keeping
the home comfy and cozy during cold times of the year. The
benefit of electric underfloor heating is that you are warmed
from the feet up. The heat naturally rises making the entire
home comfortable.
My father is a construction worker who installed electric
underfloor heating in a prototype home designed for his
company. The elements were placed underneath the floor. In this
case the entire floor of the home is cement. These elements in
the electric underfloor heating system heat the cement that
emanates heat throughout the rest of the home.
I was amazed by the simplicity of the concept but I was also
amazed by the hard work it took to install the electric
underfloor heating system. There is always a little
apprehension when dealing with cement. It takes a talented crew
to make this material cooperate with the construction team.
Adding the electric underfloor heating units into the mix
can be a little scary for some builders. Fortunately, my father
and his partners were more than happy to move forward with the
plan. It is amazing how many other construction companies have
adopted the under floor heating system as the house warmer of
choice.
One of my dear friends built his home from scratch. He
decided that he definitely wanted radiant heat in his home. The
concrete floors would normally be awfully cold but I was amazed
by how warm the uncarpeted area of the new home was.
He boasted about the electric underfloor heating and asked
everyone to step on the concrete floor with their bare feet. At
first we thought that he was off his rocker but once we placed
our feet on the warm surface we knew why he was so excited.
There is one drawback. His wife says that she has nothing to
dust since there is no forced air. If you just bought a Swiffer
dusting kit you might want to skip electric underfloor
heating.
